CCSS rushes urgent construction projects in San Juan de Dios Hospital

The Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) gave its approval for five members of the Infrastructure Management to work exclusively on the urgent construction projects in San Juan de Dios Hospital.

The works are a Cancer Center, a Hematology Service, a new Tower for Emergencies and a surgical tower, which were approved last year.

Ileana Balmaceda, medical director of the hospital, said that with the 5 officials deeply involved in the projects, they would be saving up a year and a half in construction.

They will start with the construction of the emergency tower, because, according to Balmaceda, this is the most urgent project. This structure will include emergency rooms, observation rooms, offices, satellite pharmacy, X – ray, CT, surgical bed area, satellite laboratories, among others.

In addition, the surgery tower will have a bed area for surgery, gynecology and neonatology and a surgical wing.

The Joint Cancer Center will have 2 linear accelerators and it will also provide care and treatment for the patients of San Juan de Dios, Blanco Cervantes Hospital and the National Children’s Hospital.
