Central American Network to fight obesity

Eight public universities in Central America are determined to fight obesity and overweight that affect many children in school age.

To that end came the creation of the “Central American Network for Applied Research in Children and Adolescents in Human Movement, Psychomotor and Health”, integrated by the Autonomous University of Nicaragua, the National Pedagogical Francisco Morazán from Honduras, the Regional San Pedro Sula University Center from Honduras, El Salvador University, University of San Carlos from Guatemala, the Autonomous University of Chiriquí from Panama, the Specialized University The Americas from Panama and the National University of Costa Rica (UNA).

The Network aims to collect data and create models of sustainable development, where training, promotion and prevention are elements that help raise children and adolescents in motion.

Emmanuel Herrera, from the School of Science of Human Movement and Quality, said the network began nearly two years ago when they got the funds from The International Life Sciences Institute ILSI.

The project was financed for $ 120,000 and it should be ready by 2018.
