Civil servants could work 10 hours a day, 4 days a week

Minister of Labour, Carlos Alvarado, announced a staggered schedule for civil servants, in order to reduce traffic jams.

The first step is to set 3 different scheduled times to start working: 6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

In addition, there is also the possibility to legally modify the schedule for employees to work 10 hours a day continuously for 4 days a week. The required business days will be Mondays and Fridays and the day off could be Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.

This schedule would no apply for the Ministry of Education, health centers, hospital services, and police and should not affect public services,”

said Alvarado.

The leaders of each institution are responsible for establishing the new hours and days in consultation with workers and headquarters, ensuring that schedules are not affected.
