CNE issues green and yellow alert over heavy rain and tropical wave

Heavy rains caused floods in various sectors of the country on Tuesday. According to Alexander Solís, president of the National Commission of Emergencies (CNE), although we are not yet facing the Tropical Wave #6, there have already been incidents of waterlogging.

The hierarch said that in view of this situation and foreseeing that there could be an increase in rainfall, a green alert was established for the Pacific slope. However, in the North Pacific they excluded the canton of La Cruz, since it is on yellow alert because there are already effects in the area.

Solís indicated that they also made contact with the local Upala authorities.

The Municipal Emergency Committee met in the afternoon and we spoke with the mayor to identify the conditions that are prevailing. We are also mobilizing CNE personnel to support all the coordination with the institutions that make up the CNE,”

said Solís.

As a preventive measure, three shelters were enabled in the Quebradón Community Hall and in the El Delirio Community Hall in Upala, and one in the Santa Cecilia community hall in La Cruz Guanacaste, in case the transfer of families in risky conditions is necessary.

According to the CNE report there are 25 families affected by floods in Villa Nueva de Upala and three of them moved to family homes. Likewise, 50 homes are reported with damages in Santa Cecilia de La Cruz in Guanacaste.

The CNE calls on families living in areas vulnerable to landslides, floods, and saturated soils to monitor their areas and weather conditions at the local level.
