Coastguards could donate boats seized from criminal organizations

A bill that would allow the National Coast Guard Service to donate the boats and other naval assets seized from the organized crime advances in the Legislative Assembly.

The Security and Narcotrafficking Commission affirmed the initiative that was presented by legislator Marco Vinicio Redondo, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC).

The National Coast Guard Service could donate the naval assets to public institutions, associations of integral development or associations with the declaration of suitability by the Comptroller General of the Republic.

Some of the boats, engines or other equipment confiscated are not useful for the work of the National Coast Guard Service. However, there is a legal impossibility to donate them to the communities. Therefore, all that material ends up becoming waste,”

explained Redondo.

He argued that the initiative would contribute to the development of economic ventures in coastal communities, which could take advantage of these boats in tourism or fishing projects.
