College of Psychologists asks Minister of Education to clarify tweet about suicide

The College of Professionals in Psychology of Costa Rica asked the Minister of Education, Edgar Mora, to give explanations about the tweet he wrote this Saturday in regards to suicide.

Due to a publication by the Minister of Public Education that is now viral and that really worries us about because of his philosophical position on the decision of self-elimination (suicide), we would like to request a clarification, since we are professionals in psychology and the welfare of the people and the protection of life are psycho-ethical principles that we protect,”

said Waynner Guillén, president of the union.

The Minister of Education pointed out that he never intended to promote suicide.

The post, by the way it is written, could be misunderstood. That is possibly due to the mention of the word truth. Under no circumstances the wording of the tweet is intended to incite suicide but rather to the idea that there is a truth, as imperious situation in those who try to die by suicide, may not be fully understood and with the decision to commit suicide is a pain in society, a doubt, especially among those who are part of that person’s life,”

said Mora.
