Companies ask for compensation for avocado ban issued by the Solís Administration

At least six avocado import companies seek a millionaire compensation, after the ban on importing Hass Mexican avocado, imposed during the Solís Rivera Administration.

This Wednesday was the first day of trial in the Contentious Administrative Court in which the companies sued the State, because they say they were affected by the regulations implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the State Phytosanitary Service.

In the process, the companies would be requesting an economic compensation that would be around $50 million.

Randall Benavides, President of the Chamber of Exporters and Importers of Perishable Products confirmed that the hearing is scheduled for Wednesday and next Friday.

This debate was scheduled for July, but due to a medical issue of a judge, it was rescheduled for November.
