Commission officials to promote Competition (Coprocom) backed the bill that aims to regulate the operation of Uber and other mobile transport applications in the country. This was stated by Yanina Montero, director of the Coprocom, in the Committee on Economic Affairs of the Legislative Assembly, in which the file is processed.
She said studies have shown that Costa Ricans
love Uber and platforms, and that, in addition, regulations in the public transport service are obsolete.”
However, she made the following observations to the project:
-Do not determine a maximum number of drivers for different platforms and maximum prices.
-It would be inconvenient to charge for the registration of 20 base salaries in the first four years and 10 base salaries for renewal, because it could harm small entrepreneurs.
-It would also be inconvenient to charge 20% to drivers as a right of operation.
She insisted that the platforms should be regulated only in terms of quality and safety of drivers and users.
