Congresswoman holds public universities to accounts

Natalia Díaz, a legislator from the Libertarian Movement, held public universities to accounts for the low implementation of a credit for $ 200 million signed with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for the improvement of higher education.

Díaz made the request after the Office of the Comptroller General revealed that as of March 31st this year, the execution of the loan is $ 18.06 million, just 9.03% of the total.

A report by the regulatory authority determined that at that time there were also committed resources to the project at various universities in the order of $ 43.43 million.

The deadline for the execution of credit is 5 years from its adoption in November 2012.

The comptroller also found that universities in charge of the project made changes to its Institutional Improvement Plan that had an impact on the deadlines.

The loan was assigned to the University of Costa Rica, National University, Universidad Estatal a Distancia and the Costa Rica Institute of Technology.
