Construction continues to fall

According to the Central Bank of Costa Rica, the construction sector recorded a fall of 4.3% in September, a figure that contrasts with the growth of 6.6% in 2015.

Private construction recorded a fall in the meters actually built in non-residential buildings, which was cushioned by the best performance in the housing constructions; reaching around 60%.

On the other hand, the positive performance of public construction helped reduce the fall in the total indicator, due to a higher implementation of electricity generation and distribution projects, the progress in the Container Terminal Moin, the road infrastructure in Cañas-Liberia section and Abundancia-Ciudad Quesada radial, the progress in the complementary works for road exchanges in Circunvalación-Garantías Sociales and Guadalupe-Derecho UCR.

It also contributed to improve roads Pozuelo-Jardines del Recuerdo and the construction and improvement of bridges.

According to the Central Bank, despite the fall of the sector, activity has been contributing to the growth of insured people.
