Construction sector owes the CCSS ¢922 million

According to data from the Collection Department of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), 1,059 employers from the construction sector owe ¢4,922 million.

The information indicates that the number of defaulters grew 18% in the last 19 months, from 898 in June 2015 to 1,059 in January 2017.

Luis Diego Calderón, director of the CCSS Collection Department, explained that efforts to recover the money also grew 4%.

The official explained that there are 384 pending procedures for defaulting business closure, 592 pending complaints of improper retention and 1,727 civil lawsuits.

The ten largest non-performing assets owed ¢1,210 million, 24% of the total outstanding.
