Contest wants young people with good ideas for sustainable construction

Young Costa Ricans may participate in a worldwide contest that seeks good ideas for sustainable construction.

The purpose of this competition is to promote a type of construction that goes hand in hand with the environment, through a series of regional and global competitions.

The LafargeHolcim Awards competition will have two categories in its fifth edition: LafargeHolcim Awards and “Next Generation”.

Rodrigo Quintanilla, coordinator of Holcim Costa Rica, explained that the idea is to achieve a construction environment that goes beyond the conventional and faces the challenges of sustainability to achieve environmental, social and economic balance.

The main category, LafargeHolcim Awards is open to projects with a state design and a high probability of execution. It is aimed at architects, planners, engineers, developers, builders and construction companies showing sustainable responses at a technological, environmental, socioeconomic and cultural level. Authors must be 18 years or older.

The “Next Generation” category is open to visionary projects and aimed at young professionals and university students, whose ages are between 18 to 30 years old.

Projects may register only through the online form. Physical applications will not be accepted.

If you have any trouble using the registration form, you can request assistance to email over helpdesk@lafargholcim-awards.org, or via Facebook.

The sum of the prizes for each contest cycle (regional and global), is $ 2 million. After a centralized technical pre-evaluation, individual judges in each of the 5 regions will evaluate and grade the respective projects.

Recognition will be initially awarded at the regional level in October 2017 and then the best projects will go to the global awards.
