According to minister of tourism Mauricio Ventura it is important to revert the 39.600-MAG order that increases 2$ to the 29$ departure tax to finance the Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal (SENASA) because it affects the country’s image.
According to Ventura, president Luis Guillermo Solís ordered the creation of a commision to discuss the matter. The minister denies being against the entire measure or disregarding the executive’s order and states they are just trying to adjust the amount and that they expect to reach a solution within the next 60 days with the help of the Security Department from the Ministry of Agriculture and livestock .
Different tourism cameras are against the measure because the Servicio Fitosanitario (State Plant Health Service) receives 2$ for scanning suitcases. They consider that giving two more dollars to the SENASA increases the charge of a contribution that is already being paid.
