Costa Rica could be a cruise terminal

The Junta de Administración Portuaria y de Desarrollo Económico de la Vertiente Atlántica (JAPDEVA) is working on project “Puesto 5-7.” If achieved, Costa Rica could be a cruise terminal in the coming years.

After Costa Rican cruises’ good response, the enterprise is aiming to create a specialized area to assist these ships. Currently, cruise ships can reach the port but can only stay a few hours in the country.

With this proposal, the country would become a suitable cruise terminal known as “home port” that allows cruises’ departures and arrivals as final destination.

When the administrative process is finished, the project will go to the Legislature, as legislators have to approve the financing loan. The authorities claim that they have been discussing the topic with the Legislature to reach their goal. The investment amounts to 82 million dollars.
