Costa Rica has seized more than 23 tons of cocaine in 2016

On Wednesday, the Police seized 300 kilos of cocaine in a town west of the capital, and arrested four suspects of Costa Rican nationality.

The police of Costa Rica have seized more than 23 tons of cocaine so far this year, representing an increase of 35% over 2015, according to data released this week by the MSP.

The drug was transported in a microbus that was intercepted on the town of Miramar, 102 km west of San José, in the province of Puntarenas.

The operation was made possible by a confidential report. The authorities have not given details on the origin and destination of the drug.

The Police has also dismantled 115 drug-related organizations, 37 of which operated internationally in relation to drug cartels, especially Mexican.

According to the report, police have seized more than 3 million dollars, as well as weapons, vehicles and properties that are linked drug trafficking activities.

Hundreds of tons of drugs from production center in South America transit through Central America in their way to consumption centers in the United States.
