During her speech at the XXV Ibero-American Summit, Ana Helena Chancón, Vice President of Costa Rica, highlighted her country’s commitment to the recognition of the rights of young people.
An active defense of the rights is creating awareness on the matter, so that people know they have said rights and demand their observance,”
said Chacón.
Chacón also welcomed the approval of the Ibero-American Youth Pact which aims to defend and vindicate the rights of the youth of the region.
This pact is a consensus by the 22 countries and has 22 points aimed at encouraging the participation of young people in institutions, creating jobs for them or improving education at all levels, among other issues.
The vice president also talked about the “priorities” of the region to fight together to achieve a better sexual health, as well as to reduce early pregnancies that, in her opinion, “condemn women to the vicious circle of poverty.”
Chacón also drew attention to the “digital divide” separating social classes and recalled that Costa Rica is working to reduce it.
