Costa Rica measured contribution of nature in its economic growth

According to Banco Central, Costa Rica will know the contribution of its natural assets to the economic growth once they begin analyzing its environmental accounts.

Environmental accounts allow to quantify the physical and economic value of natural resources and their importance to national wealth. Therefore, Banco Central will produce a series of indicators to analyze the supply and use of natural resources and their interaction with different economic activities in the country.

The three environmental accounts created for Costa Rica are water, forests and energy. The first results were published on May, 30th, and showed new information in areas such as energy management and water resources, monitoring of forests and their services, and their relation with local economy.
