Costa Rica shows the highest use of Uber per capita in Latin America

According to George Gordon, Uber’s new regional director of Uber, Costa Rica has a population of nearly five million people and it has the highest percentage of Uber users in Latin America.

Uber is a mobile platform that facilitates contact between passengers and drivers of private vehicles. According to the company, Central America and the Caribbean are one of the areas of greatest projection for the company.

In the specific case of Costa Rica, Gordon assured that it is an example of success.

The case of Costa Rica makes us very happy, not only because of the love they have for the brand, but also because it is a success story for Latin America due to the number of users and collaborating partners that use the Uber application to move around, or as a self-employment platform,”

said Gordon on Monday.

The most up-to-date figures on the operation of the application in the country show there are more than 783 thousand users and 22 thousand collaborating partners.

Uber began operations in Costa Rica on August 21st, 2015. However, after more than three years, no regulation or legal structure has yet been issued to settle its operation.

In recent weeks the Executive has been pressured by formal taxi drivers seeking a ban on the app in national territory. Last week, president Carlos Alvarado rejected the demand of the taxi drivers so that the Executive power deactivates the platform this week.

The American company offers different types of services: uberX, uberXL, and Uber Eats.
