Costa Rica will host international congress on thrombosis

For three days, the country will host the XXVI International Congress of Thrombosis and Hemostasis. This activity brings together health professionals from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, the United States, New Zealand and Greece, with the aim of preventing heart attacks and strokes.

Rafael Jiménez, president of the Costa Rican Association of Hematology, explained that

they will promote thromboprophylaxis – medical term used to refer to the prevention of heart attacks through new innovative therapies and treatments -. For this reason, this event is not only important for doctors and specialists, but also for the general population, since thrombosis is disabling and leaves serious sequelae in patients,”

said Jiménez.

This congress was declared of institutional interest by the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and specialized doctors, general practitioners, microbiologists, pharmacists, dentists and nurses will participate.

The activity will be from October 9th to 12th at the Crown Plaza Corobicí Hotel.

It is estimated that in Costa Rica, 1 in 4 people die annually due to thrombosis. This occurs when a clot forms in a blood vessel (artery or vein), which prevents blood flow to tissues caused by heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolisms and other health complications.

The specialists will also talk about hemophilia; in our country, 216 people have some type of blood clotting disorder, of which 183 have hemophilia A.
