Costa Rican and Panamanian Police shake hands after conflict

After the incident between officers of the Public Force and the National Border Service (Senafront) of Panama, both police had a meeting this Tuesday to discuss the event.

Apparently, the Panamanian agent crossed to the Costa Rican side in Paso Canoas without authorization.

The officer named Guevara was close to some Costa Rican businesses. Upon entry, at least three officers proceeded to arrest him by force.

This was recorded in a video broadcast on social networks.

On Tuesday, José Domingo Cruz, border police officer of Fuerza Pública and Cristian Hayer, director of Senafront, held a meeting to try to prevent this incident from happening again.

Both police forces confessed to maintaining a great relationship and pledged to clarify what had happened.

Cruz did not elaborate on behalf of the Public Force, because on Wednesday, police director and deputy minister Juan José Andrade will travel to the site to hold a formal meeting with Hayer.

We are going to talk again, but I believe that with the conversation with the commissioner Cruz we have already made progress. There was no harshness, it was just a misunderstanding that we already clarified and we can continue working without any problem,”

said the Panamanian police chief.

Similarly, Carlos Hidalgo, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Security (MSP), confirmed the incident on Monday and lamented the actions of Costa Rican officials.
