Costa Rican government asks Nicaraguans to resolve conflict through dialogue

For the first time, the government of Carlos Alvarado spoke about the events that take place in Nicaragua, where the clashes between civilians and the government of Daniel Ortega have resulted in more than 50 dead.

Through a press release, the Foreign Ministry expressed its solidarity with Nicaragua and regretted that the current events cause the loss of human lives and damage fundamental aspects related to the dignity and physical safety of people.

Costa Rica carefully observes the development of internal events in Nicaragua and expresses its interest in the efforts promoted by the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua, mediator and witness of the dialogue between the government and the opposition groups, so that this opens the necessary spaces for understanding,”

said the statement.

The Foreign Ministry also stated that it supports dialogue as the mechanism for a peaceful solution that allows the return to peace and tranquility of the Nicaraguan people.

After a recent wave of violence, on Monday it was announced that the Nicaraguan government would allow the entry of representatives of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) to monitor the respect of the rights of the people.
