Costa Rican won Taekwondo tournament in Chicago

With only 14 years old, Maria Jose Calderón managed to make Costa Rica proud by winning the Chicago Open Taekwondo Championship.

Calderón won four bouts in the category -46 kg and took the gold medal home.

As a mother, you always worry because she doesn’t know who she will be facing. But when she triumphs, I feel extremely proud,”

said her mother, who was miles away during the championship.

After her victory in Chicago, Calderón will travel to Queretaro, Mexico, where she will participate in a new taekwondo tournament. Her mind is set at the World Championships to be held next November.

The former Olympic athlete, Kristopher Moitland, has been training her since she began practicing this martial art ten years ago.
