Thousands of Ticos used the Labor Day to take to the streets and defend their rights, during a march that extended all along the Second Avenue and ended in front of the Legislative Assembly.

Before it began, a mass was celebrated, where the great absentee was the President Luis Guillermo Solís, who did not go for health reasons.

During the sermon, the Archbishop of San José, José Rafel Quirós, addressed the issue of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), the Invalidity, Old Age and Death (IVM) fund.

The traditional march of May 1 began at 10:00 a.m. in Parque de la Merced. The central axis of the march was the situation of the CCSS.

Children, youth, adults and even animals were present, all with a specific reason, which they explained through posters.

The union groups were the ones that managed to mobilize most people, but there were those who fought for gender equality, housing and RECOPE, among others.

Paquito the rooster stood out among the crowd with his owner Martín Herrera, who carried a message for the legislators: to approve the Law against animal abuse.

Estimates expected a total of 5 thousand people and, according to Albino Vargas, they exceeded this figure.
