Luis Diego Monge, a member of the Central Association of Aeronautics and Space Board (AEA) and project manager, informed that “Proyecto Irazú” will start the construction of the first Central American satellite in January.

It will be put into orbit between 2017 and 2018 in collaboration with the Government of Japan and the Japanese Space Agency JAXA.

Marco Gómez, project manager, said that they are trying to use space technology to measure carbon dioxide.

We want to measure the fixation of carbon dioxide in an experimental plot in Los Chiles, Alajuela using a satellite to transmit data from the remote area to a station in the TEC,”

explained Gómez.

The TEC is the academic partner that provides field participation to students from the schools of Forest Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, Computer Engineering, among others.

We are encouraging students to get involved. Their participation will contribute with a more rewarding project,”

declared Ana Julieta Calvo, TEC researcher.

The plan is to develop the Country’s scientific and technical abilities in aerospace projects.
