Country has tried to mix gasoline with ethanol twice

Costa Rica has tried to sell gasoline mixed with ethanol twice.

The first time was during the administration of Rodrigo Carazo, at the end of the 70s, due to the energy crisis at that time. The second was a pilot plan during the administration of Abel Pacheco, in 2006, in the province of Guanacaste.

This is what Juan Antonio Rodríguez, an economist and former employee of the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE), tells us about the plan of this institution to sell this mixture from next May, in a third attempt.

Rodríguez indicated that during his time at the institution he never knew of a report that revealed the success or failure of these attempts.
