Couple robbed tourists 17 times while “helping” them

More than 17 tourists were assaulted with the “pinchonazo” method by a couple in the provinces of San José and Alajuela.

On Thursday morning, the Judicial Investigation Agency arrested a Colombian man named Caicedo and a Costa Rican woman named Centeno. Both are 42 years old and have a record for theft.

The criminals attacked foreigners after they rented vehicles. According to the information of the authorities, they waited for the tourists near the car rental. Then, from a motorcycle, they punctured the tires, followed them and then offered them help. The tourists stopped and the woman spoke in English. While she helped them change the tire, the man stole bags and money.

The couple committed the crimes on weekends between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The raid by the OIJ occurred in a house in San Francisco de Heredia. During the operations they found altered passports, tickets from different countries, and the motorcycle used for the robberies.
