“Coyote Chino”, a human trafficker, was captured

On November 16th, the Investigation Unit from the Immigration Police along with the Prosecution Against People Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants, detained a suspect of illegally taking Costa Ricans to the United States from Pérez Zeledón.

The subject, surnamed Barboza, is suspect for the crime of people trafficking and he is been under investigation since January 2015. In the area, he is known as “Coyote Chino.”

Apparently Barboza used different routes to smuggle nationals which failed to meet the minimum requirements to enter the United States. He did it by air, sea and land.

According to the investigation, Barboza earned up to $ 10,000 per person. In many cases, Costa Ricans mortgaged their assets to reach the American dream.
