Cracks in Irazú volcano are threatening telecommunications towers

The recent rains, hurricane and earthquakes, caused further cracks in part of the mountainous terrain in Irazú Volcano, threatening 75 telecommunications towers in the site.

On December 10th, several authorities made an inspection to determine the effect on the land and the measures to be taken.

Edwin Estrada, deputy minister of Telecommunications, said that the cracks are not new, but the problem is now being expanded.

Six months ago we visited the towers and the operators who were at greater risk moved the towers to other places,

stated Estrada, who added that only the towers are in danger, since the cracks have not reach the touristic area.
