CRECEX calls to refrain from sending cargoes to Honduras

In the face of unrest in Honduras over alleged electoral fraud in the elections held on November 26th, the Costa Rican Chamber of Commerce (CRECEX) expressed concern and called on importers and exporters to take a break in sending cargo to this country.

For now,

we recommend not sending cargo, or move through Honduras until there is 100% certainty that the authorities are in control of roads, ports and other public places,”

said José Manuel Quirce, President of CRECEX.

Quirce, who maintains constant communication with the businessmen of the place, informed that the situation is of total uncertainty, since there have been a series of looting to containers that lined up in Puerto Cortés and in a place called Potrillo.

Also, according to the president of the Chamber, it was confirmed that the cargo of several Honduran companies was vandalized.

Additionally, it was confirmed that the groups that caused disorder and civil disobedience wanted to take the facilities of Puerto Cortés, but were unable to achieve this. Therefore, the Honduran army is already protecting the place.
