Crisis of violence: 202 homicides in four months

April 2018 ended with 202 homicides in the statistics of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ). The average reveals 50 violent deaths every month. Only this weekend there was, a triple homicide in Pococí, and murders in Pérez Zeledón, San Ramón and Cartago.

On Monday morning, Walter Espinoza, director of the OIJ, said that the figures ahow the high degree of violence used to solve problems in the country. These cases are linked to the increase in fights and femicides reported in recent months.

There is a situation of violence that has been growing for three years that manifests in society not only with drug trafficking but with the increase in fights,”

said Espinoza.

To date, 202 cases of homicide are reported, while in 2017 there were 184 by this same date. According to the Minister, action plans are being drawn up to stop criminal groups that operate with violence and reduce cases.
