Crucitas operations stop mercury, cyanide and prostitution

The authorities of the Ministry of Security, the Border Police and Migration provided the results of the operations carried out in Crucitas.

The main findings include the confiscation of 2.4 tons of cyanide, 1.4 kilos of mercury and the end of activities such as robberies and prostitution.

According to the deputy minister, Luis Carlos Castillo, several institutions joined together to face the problem together with the Prosecutor’s Office and the number of people present in the area was reduced.

At the beginning there were between three thousand and four thousand people and now there are 300 or 400 people. The Crucitas area is a wide area and control is sometimes difficult,”

said Castillo. The head said that there have been 3 operations with positive results.

The director of Borders, Allan Obando released the results of the Lapa II and Lapa III operations, during the year:

186 people have been apprehended.
963 foreigners with an irregular immigration status were referred to Migration.
11 minors were sent to Pani.

Alan Soto, Deputy Director of Migration, said that the activity has led to the deportation of several people.
