Dengue highlights in Ticos’ digital conversations

A digital study indicates that Costa Ricans, on average, daily mentioned the word dengue at least eight times in a year.

This is revealed by a PN Connect study, which analyzed the emergence of the word in Central America. Social networks like Twitter, forums, blogs and digital news counted 3,000 mentions between May 2016 and May 2017.

During this period of analysis we determined that there is some concern among users about this disease, resulting 42% of the conversation was about dengue and that 69% of the mentions studied are highlighted by negative aspects such as increased cases, the proliferation of mosquitoes and breeding grounds,”

said Andrés Jenkings, PN Connect data analyst.

The possibility of a vaccine also stood out in the analyzed digital conversations.

The specialists say that the great amount of interaction related to the disease is due to the cases counted in the country in the last six years: with more than 169 thousand affected.

During 2017, Costa Rica has already exceeded 2200 cases of dengue.
