Dispute between Consul General Federico Sáenz and Costa Rican Chancery

Federico Sáenz de Mendiola, Consul General and Minister Counselor in the Dominican Republic, faces a dispute with the Costa Rican Chancery, after his dismissal last year.

The diplomat appealed his dismissal before the Administrative Court.

The press has questioned why the reasons for Sáenz’ dismissal were omitted and if they are related to alleged abuses in the management of public resources. However, no response has been provided.

The Administrative Court ordered the suspension of the dismissal until the case is resolved. To date the issue has not been settled.

Recently, Chancellor Manuel González has been questioned not only due to the system of diplomat appointments, but due to their recent layoffs, on whether there is an intention to hide the mistake of appointing such officials.

According to the former deputy chancellor Carlos Roverssi, González must explain the motives behind the dismissals.

“The ethics of this government is whatever they want. That which is bad for some, is but an error for them,” said Roverssi.

According to Eric Briones, specialist in labor law, the Foreign Ministry has to comply with due process and explain why civil servants, who were appointed through the Civil Service Statute, are being fired, and this information is public.
