Do not feed the crocodiles!

A local commission, created to meet the emergency with crocodiles in Tamarindo, asked citizens not to feed these reptiles and it accused this practice as the reason why these animals are changing their behavior.

After the relocation of the crocodile that attacked the American tourist on July 22nd, the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) announced that it will continue with the installation of warning signs on the beach.

Poor management practices towards these animals, such as feeding them, cause a complete alteration of their natural behavior, making crocodiles lose fear and associate people with food.

The local committee is made up by officials from Las Baulas Marine Park, Tempisque Conservation Area and security forces. They aim to reduce crocodile attacks in that area. In addition, biological monitoring will be conducted to provide more information about the status of the crocodile population in Tamarindo Wetland.

According to experts, Tamarindo Wetland is part of Las Baulas National Marine Park and it is an important because in this area the American crocodile is locateda and it is endangered.
