Don’t drink alcohol during pregnancy, the baby is at risk!

If a woman consumes alcohol during pregnancy, the baby’s life is at risk. In addition, the baby can be born with many physical and mental complications that could be irreversible.

These health problems are part of a condition known as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). If the baby does not die, he could be born with one, several or all of these consequences:

abnormal facial features.
Small head.
lower average height.
Low body weight.
Heart, bones and kidneys problems.
Poor coordination.
hyperactive behavior.
Difficulty paying attention.
Bad memory.
Difficulties in school (especially in maths).
Learning disabilities.
Delays in speech and language.
intellectual disabilities or low IQ.
Poor reasoning ability and judgment.
Hearing and sight problems.

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that American women over 15 years old recorded a rate of alcohol use disorders than double the world average.

As a result, Monica Solórzano Director from Educalcohol organization, stated that it is not safe to drink alcohol during pregnancy.

When a pregnant woman consumes liquor, the baby in her womb also does. Alcohol in the mother’s blood passes from the placenta to the fetus through the umbilical cord,

explained the director.

To have a regular pregnancy, it is also necessary to take proper control, healthy eating and consume more fluids to compensate for the increased blood volume. Women should consume water in order to hydrate and facilitate the flow of nutrients to the baby’s bloodstream.
