Drivers raised their voices: Cesmag is in troubles

The Foro Nacional de Transportistas raised its voice to reject the new fare model that will have a great impact on Cesmag Company, which provides a service to several areas in the east of the capital.

Cesmag’s fare will have a 28% reduction. It is theorically justified with tools that are not related to the fare model,

declared Alex Álvarez, president of the Chamber of Drivers of San José.

Alvarez claimed that Cesmag has huge debts because the previous model allowed the company to invest and therefore, it went into debts:

If you suddenly change the rules, you leave companies helpless. No company will survive to that.

On Monday, ARESEP announced the new fare adjustment for buses. Route 50, which provides services in San Pedro, Sabanilla, San Ramón, Tres Ríos and areas nearby will be regulated by it. Cesmag company is in charge of this route.

National Transport Council (CTP) evaluated Cesmag’s operational procedures. CTP has updated information related to the number of passengers, number of buses, bus types, etc, in order to implement the new model.

According to CTP, there was an increase of 80 thousand users on the mentioned route, a 19% reduction in the fleet and a decrease of 20% in the taxi journey. That would lead to a reduction in fares.

The company assures that they haven’t been informed about that.
