Drone filmed 300 tons of trash stranded in Cóbano

The service and disposal of solid waste must be suspended from July 3rd, 2017, until further notice.”

This was the message received by the residents of Cóbano, Puntarenas district, because the budget had been exhausted to hire the company TecnoAmbiente , which would take the waste from the community to the Miramar dump, about 100 kilometers away.

Hiring this company was the only option that the Municipal District Council found since June 5th, when the Ministry of Health ordered the closure of the open-air dump located in Cóbano , in the sector known as La Libertad.

During June, Tecnoambiente took the garbage to Miramar. However, uncertainty began in July because the service will be suspended if a budget is not approved.

It is uncertain what will happen to the collection of solid waste. Meanwhile, 300 tons of garbage remain untreated on about two hectares of Cóbano. Its correct technical closing would be done in a term between three and seven years.

A drone run by tourist Nick Hawkins filmed the dimensions of the closed landfill that now puts this eight-thousand-people community at risk.
