East wing of Calderón Guardia Hospital would be ready by 2020

On Tuesday, the CCSS announced that within two or three weeks they will begin the construction of the East wing of the Calderón Guardia Hospital would begin. The idea is that the building is ready by 2020.

Rocío Sáenz, Executive President of the CCSS, explained that with this construction they intend to restore the hospital’s response capacity, which it lost after the fire on July 12th, 2005.

Jorge Granados, director of Architecture and Engineering of the CCSS, commented that before starting with the tower itself, other complementary works (demolition, remodeling, electrical and mechanical systems) must be done in some areas.

Yesterday (Monday) we received the notification from the Comptroller that they were already endorsing the contract. It is a project of 25 thousand square meters and $ 85 million, I believe that it’s the most expensive project of the institution in recent years,”

commented Granados.

The new wing will be a seven-story building that will have surgery, gynecology-obstetrics, pediatrics, neonatal units and a special isolation unit, among other services.

Of the seven floors, two will be underground with a fully digital x-ray service, which will be the most modern in the country, according to Granados.
