Education unions meet to analyze the future of the strike

The Association of Teachers of Secondary Education (APSE), the Union of Workers of Education (SEC) and the National Association of Educators (ANDE) met on Monday to analyze the future of the strike.

The protest movement against the so-called fiscal reform has been standing for 78 days with an important representation of the education unions.

The unions informed their affiliations that the idea is to assess the current scenarios of the movement, after the sentence of the Constitutional Chamber last Friday.

We ask you to stay alert and very attentive, in view of the information that we will send you in the next few hours. We continue fighting for you and assessing, in a very responsible way, the decisions that we will make soon,”

said ANDE through its social networks.

The SEC said it would change the landscape, but not the fight. The protest of the educators caused students to lose 53 days of lessons in a large number of educational centers. The subject corresponding to the third quarter could not be evaluated either and the performance of the Bachillerato tests was altered. The strike dramatically impacted the entire 2018 school year.

According to the latest report on absenteeism by the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), 23,285 teachers are not in the classroom.
