Electricity business towards carbon neutrality

The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) moves steadily towards carbon neutrality. An example of this is that Power and Light removed 100% of its emissions of greenhouse gases and incorporated hydroelectric plants Arenal, Dengo and Sandillal to this process.

In addition, they started checking gas emission inventories in the plants in the Chorotega region.

Power and Light, received a certification from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) as carbon neutral company last April. With this, it became the first ICE company and the second national power distributor to show the removal of 100% of its greenhouse gases, equivalent to 34,327.72 tons of CO2 per year.

The recognition is part of the strategy by ICE’s Senior Management and Business Generation, aiming to become a sustainable organization, environmentally committed that contributes to the goal of being a carbon-neutral country by 2021.
