Electricity charges will rise between July and September

The cost of electricity will rise between July and September because the last trimester required more energy generated by fuels.

The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) will increase the price by 5.49% and the National Power and Light Company (CNFL) will rise it 4.45%

The Regulatory Authority for Public Services (ARESEP) announced that the increase in domestic electricity demand was driven by reductions in service prices that applied in previous months, as well as increased economic activity, as confirmed by the Index monthly Economic Activity (IMAE).

Due to the water shortage, the providers must resort to the use of fuels to generate electricity, which raises costs.

The price change applies to 8 electric companies in the country: Costa Rican Electricity Institute, National Power and Light, Public Service Company of Heredia, Board Manager of Electrical Services of Cartago and cooperatives operating in San Carlos, Alfaro Ruiz, Guanacaste and Zona de los Santos.

Electricity prices will vary depending on the company providing the service and electricity purchases these make to the ICE.
