Emergency Budget will be voted before December 20th

The approval of extraordinary resources to deal with the damages caused by Hurricane Otto must be voted before December 20th, according to the President of the Legislative Assembly, Antonio Álvarez.

The liberationist said that the proposal would be sent on Thursday by the Executive to the Congress as part of the call for extraordinary sessions.

Álvarez said that he doesn’t know the amount of the budget, but explained that the resources will go to the National Emergency Commission (CNE) and the Joint Institute of Social Assistance (IMAS), among other entities.

However, Luis Paulino Mora, deputy Minister of the Presidency for Legislative Affairs, stated last week that the Government will request at least 3 billion colones.

Hurricane Otto left 10 deaths, damaged roads and homes, as well as an enormous devastation in several localities, mainly in the canton of Upala.
