Executive Power: the public employment project will not be withdrawn from Congress

The Executive Power was clear: the public employment project will not be withdrawn from Congress. This would make the unions call for a general strike during the first days of February.

This is completely unnecessary for the government, since they believe the dialogue is part of what is needed in a democracy.

However, beyond these words, public employees would not change their position.

We discourage this movement, especially now when the project is in the Legislative Assembly. That is where the debates will begin,”

said Sergio Alfaro, Minister of the Presidency.

Alfaro was emphatic that the ultimatum given by union groups is not acceptable and he hopes any attempt of national strike are reconsidered to avoid affecting Costa Rican society.

From the Presidential House they accept that the fiscal projects would have no future if the regulation of salary bonuses is not discussed first. Therefore, they will maintain the project, since their interest is that both the income tax and the value added tax see daylight this year.
