Costa Rica is the host of the II Latin American Congress on Environmental Conflicts (COLCA) to be held from September 12th to 16th, 2016, in the City of Research at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), with experts from the region.
They will discuss the importance of further studying if the relationship between human rights and the environment helps protecting the most vulnerable populations against environmental impacts and promote environmental justice,”
said Bernardo Aguilar, director of Neotrópica Foundation.
In addition, conditions will be analyzed to achieve environmental sustainability.
Other topics to be addressed include:
Urban and rural conflicts linked to agricultural and marine activities.
Conflicts over non-urban mining activities.
Conflicts arising from climate change processes.
Socio-environmental reality and resolution mechanisms.
Community participation models.
Tools and methodologies for the analysis of conflict.
Environmental justice.
This event is organized by Neotrópica Foundation, the School of Biology of UCR, the Environmental Court, Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), the Mesoamerican Society of Economy and Ecology and the COLCA Network. It was previously held in Argentina in 2014.
