Experts foresee greater eruptions in Turrialba’s volcano

A Turrialba’s volcano greater eruption could generate more ashes over the Metropolitan Area, similar to the ash fall that took place from 1963 to 1965 during Irazú’s volcanic activity.

This was determined by experts from OVSICORI and the National Seismological Network during the Governing Council. They also informed that a greater amount of ash would be the most serious problem that could affect the Central Valley.

Television and movies scenes are not possible in this case. We will not have huge stones falling in San José, or lava flows reaching the oceans. Larger eruptions can occur, but we have seen it in the past,

stated Javier Pacheco, from the National Seismological and Volcanological Observatory.

In the event of rocks and magma, the population near the volcano has already been evacuated. As consequence, People would not be affected.
