Exporters want more governmental support

The Chamber of Exporters of Costa Rica described exports’ growth in the country as “worrying” since it is focused on the Free Economic Zone, which, by its nature, has greater incentives granted by law.

This was announced in a bulletin released on Wednesday: while the free economic zones increased by 13%, export regime increased only by 2%.

We urge authorities to create the appropriate conditions for other regimes, such as the definitive system, which in 2015 accounted for 52% of export’s total value. In addition, most Costa Rican exporters work under this system and they are located in rural areas, so it is required more governmental attention towards these sectors,

stated the missive.

During the first half of the year, exports of goods reached 5,080 million dollars, which is 7% higher when compared to the same period last year.
