Fighting roosters were found in a sack

A man was about to wash his hands in Peñas Blancas river, but there was a macabre, cruel surprise.

At the site, he found many fighting cocks, some of them were alive, others were dead. They had recently been abandoned there in a sack.

The man, identified as Keneth Monge, made some pictures and recorded a video with his cellphone. He then reported the events to SENASA, who immediately went to the place. The specialists found 18 fighting cocks, but they were all dead by then.

None of the roosters had their natural spur: they had been cut to be replaced with sharp metal.

All animals had deadly lesions on their bodies. According to the authorities, they had fought in some clandestine ring dedicated to this illegal activity.

In addition, some of them had marks and signs on their feet, used by their breeders to identify them.

Eliud Herrera, regional director of the SENASA, said that they will investigate the events to try to find the responsible people.
