Financial support for 80 rice farmers affected by Nate

A group of 80 rice producers will receive a financial support of ¢ 500 million to face the losses caused by storm Nate, in October 2017. The funds come from the National Rice Corporation (Conarroz).

This week, President Carlos Alvarado and the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Renato Alvarado, signed Law 9596, which empowers Conarroz to allocate resources for recovery.

The National Commission of Emergencies (CNE) estimated the initial losses caused by the weather phenomenon in $385 million, which affected 85% of the national territory.

Alvarado added that research will be undertaken on seed improvement and new agricultural practices.

The regulation establishes as beneficiaries natural or legal persons legally constituted whose crop has been registered in Conarroz. Interested parties must also present a certification of not having been compensated by the National Insurance Institute (INS) for the same climatic phenomenon or receiving any other type of financial aid from public sector institutions.
