Fire consumed 10 thousand square meters of scrubland in Alajuela

A fire caused 10 thousand square meters of scrubland to burn on Wednesday night in La Garita de Alajuela.

According to the Fire Department, there were no people affected. However, there is a concern that so far this year, more than 8,000 fire incidents have occurred in as scrublands, forests, garbage deposits and other outdoor areas.

More than 40% of the 21,400 emergencies handled in 2017 have been fire emergencies.

Burning debris and scrublands, leaving a camp fire unattended or acts of vandalism generate a high incidence of fire in vegetation. Once again, we call citizens to avoid burning vegetation and thus avoid risking their lives, property and the environment,”

said the entity in a statement.
