Fire left 23 dead and 1,544 homeless in 2013

According to the fire fighting agency, a total of 14,000 fires resulted in the deaths of 23 people and destroyed the homes of 1,544 people in 2013. The figure is historically high and represents a 25 percent increase from 2012. An estimated 22 fires were ruled as arson and the remaining were accidental. Electrical equipment provoked 29.5 percent of accidental fires, 16.9 were caused by open flame and 10.2 percent are attributed to gas stoves.
